Clara Adolphs

Clara Adolphs is an Australian artist based in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales.

Adolphs' works reference old photographs, evoking the innocence and simple pleasures of moments past. The anonymous figures and expressive strokes in her paintings create a sense of incompleteness, inviting the viewer to fill in the gaps with their own memories. Moments of leisure at ski resorts, family holidays and summer pools, thus become sites of meditation upon the timeless, collective nature of the human condition.

In 2008 Adolphs completed her Bachelor Degree in Fine Art at the University of New South Wales.  She has held numerous solo exhibitions throughout Australia and has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize, the Sulman Prize, the Mosman Art Prize and the Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship. In 2017 she was awarded the Eva Breuer Traveling Art Scholarship through the Art Gallery of New South Wales as well as the Mosman Art Prize Young Emerging Artist Award.
