The title of "Imago," or image in Latin, represents Mirko Baricchi’s latest body of work. Drawing from Jungian theory where imagos are the results of personal experiences from one’s unconscious, one can only think of Baricchi’s distinct visual vernacular to depict personal landscapes, often drawing from his homeland of Veneto. Viewing the artist’s growth from previous exhibition “Selva” (2018), translated from Italian to woods, to “Oltre/Beyond,” “Imago” (2023) presents Baricchi’s engagement with a newly expanded palette that showcases a flooding of light and emotion over large areas of the canvas.

Long invested in the intellectual process behind painting landscapes, Mirko Baricchi’s latest work interweaves colours and textures that simultaneously highlight the one-dimensionality of their surface while also inviting viewers to revel within their psychological depths.
